Weinland: Los Processaur [Album Review]

Weinland
Los Processaur
Woodphone Records [2012]

Fire Note Says:  Weinland returns with a bigger sound driven by the same solid emotion.

Album Review:  Immediately from opening track “Bones Checking In” you hear an evolving sound from Portland OR’s Weinland as they move away from their more hush like moments on 2009’s Breaking The Sun into a fuller vibe that is a closer representative of their live show.  The band even went so far as to track all the songs to the beat of a kick drum for an upbeat sing-along feel.

The result of this more “live” vibe works for Weinland as lead singer Adam Shearer has one of those niche voices that hooks you immediately and never lets go with his smooth delivery. The songs on Los Processaur truly connect as they are not barnstompers like you might start believing from the description above but more free flowing mid-tempo Americana jams. You can join in singing “la la la la” on the foot tapping “The Champ” or let your mind wander as the title track has a similar musical tone to that of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.”  The harmonizing during the opening of “Yessie Yames” is exactly why you sign up for a record like this and the rollicking upbeat fun time on the closing “The Eagle” not only ends the record on a high note but shows the full potential of this ever growing group.

Los Processaur does not quite reach the special place that Breaking The Sun hit but is still a solid record. The album was funded entirely by fans via Kickstarter which always tells you something about an artist and represents the best about music. Weinland had and used their financial freedom to set up their own label, take complete control of their musical path and they made the music they wanted to make. Fans couldn’t ask for much more as Los Processaur is a good time, has a high replay value and will keep me tuned into Weinland!
