Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam
J-Records [2006]

Pearl Jam is the band’s hardest-hitting record since Vs. and easily their best since Yield. The first five tracks immediately bring back the feeling of the early ’90s grunge explosion, when Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden dominated the airwaves. The pounding guitars, huge choruses, and driving percussion are a full-force reminder of what Pearl Jam does best—deliver great rock songs with conviction.
This record is a classic case of a band circling back to its roots. After years of experimenting with different sounds, Pearl Jam sounds reinvigorated here—much like U2 shedding their electronic years. My high rating isn’t based on nostalgia; it’s based on the fact that this album has been on nonstop rotation. We’ve got stacks of records coming through the office, but this one keeps getting played. It’s a musically tight, front-to-back solid release without a single throwaway track.

Still here, still listening, and still sharing the best of what’s new.
