Aloha
Some Echoes
Polyvinyl Records [2006]

Aloha is an interesting band—not just musically, but geographically. The members are spread across the East Coast and rarely live near each other. When not touring, they write and share music remotely, building their albums from a distance. You’d think that process might fall apart creatively, but with Some Echoes, it absolutely works.
The album is rich in texture and range, thanks in part to the members’ varied influences—from The Bee Gees and The Smiths to the Grateful Dead. Tracks like “Brace Your Face” and “Come Home” stretch into prog rock territory, while others keep things punchy and jangly in two-minute bursts. That stylistic variety adds energy and unpredictability, making Some Echoes an engaging listen from front to back. No matter what instrument grabs your ear, it’s probably showcased here. Aloha inject a breath of fresh air into indie rock and raise the bar for their peers.
