“Moving” marks the return of Lou Barlow to the solo album world as his new LP, Brace The Wave, will be his first in six years. Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh have kept him busy on the indie rock side of things so if you are familiar with his earlier solo efforts, the mid-tempo pace and more acoustic pieces of “Moving” will not surprise you as Barlow is very comfortable turning down the amps.
What I like about “Moving” is its intense simplicity. You can hear the emotion in Barlow’s voice as it almost trembles and walks the edge of losing it but never does. The track was inspired by his recent relocation from LA back to his home state of Massachusetts and you can hear the complexity of that decision swirling behind his voice with the track’s carefully added synths.
“Moving” is a great first listen before Lou Barlow’s Brace The Wave hits the streets September 4th via Joyful Noise Recordings. Enjoy the track below!
