We’ve got an early listen for you today, and trust us—you’re gonna want to hit repeat. “Never Be Another,” the new single from Jr. Thomas in the Eraserhood (out Sept. 26 via DeepMatter Records), drops officially tomorrow, but you can hear it right now.

For the uninitiated: Jr. Thomas (aka Thomas McDowall) cut his teeth in the Minneapolis ska scene before making waves with his vintage Jamaican soul project Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos. His records ooze analog warmth, deep grooves, and golden-era heart—think Studio One meets Curtis Mayfield. Now, he’s teamed up with Philly’s retro-futurist soul duo Eraserhood Sound for a fresh, collaborative LP that brings his sound into cinematic new territory.

“Never Be Another” is a slow-burning soul stunner—elegant, bittersweet, and laced with the kind of lived-in emotion you can’t fake. A standout from the upcoming record, it channels vintage vibes while staying deeply personal.

“‘Never Be Another’ came together in its own unique way,” Jr. Thomas shares. “Vincent had recorded most of the track himself as an unfinished idea and asked if I could write something for it in case we needed an extra song for the album. The vocal melody came to me instantly, but crafting the lyrics as a tribute to an old Minneapolis friend took more time. It was also the first song we recorded when I arrived at Eraserhood. Raynier’s Hammond work, along with Zeek and Turquoise’s backing vocals, gave it so much depth. I love how Maxwell’s percussion holds back until later in the song. Big props to Ron Kerber, whose flute performance brings the outro to a powerful close.”
