Fire Track: Morgan Nagler – “Hurt”

Heartbreak Songs with Clear Eyes and Big Heart

Los Angeles songwriter Morgan Nagler steps out under her own name today with the release of her debut album I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It, out now via Little Operation Records and More. To mark the occasion, she has shared the new single “Hurt,” a tender, clear-eyed track that captures the emotional center of the record.

“Hurt” pairs Nagler’s warm voice with a small army of collaborators. The song was co written with Suzy Shinn and features producer Kyle Thomas on guitar and vocals alongside Gabe Noel (bass), Josh Adams (drums), and Meg Duffy adding a beautiful slide guitar outro. Bethany Cosentino, Allison Crutchfield, and Madi Diaz also join in on backing vocals, giving the chorus a gentle lift. When Nagler sings the line “you don’t know love if you don’t know hurt,” it lands like a simple truth rather than a dramatic statement.

While this is her first album under her own name, Nagler has been writing songs for years and has collaborated with artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Margo Price, Kim Deal, and HAIM. Much of I’ve Got Nothing to Lose, and I’m Losing It was written in early 2024 as she worked through the end of a long relationship. The result is a debut that feels open, honest, and quietly confident.
