top 10 xmas songs
The Holiday season is upon us and I am sure that between Black Friday and Cyber Monday everyone has already had enough. What always makes it better for me is to pull out the Christmas music and start spinning some of my favorites.

With that said, I have 10 holiday songs below that will get you revved up and keep you going till it’s time to take the tree down. So go fill your eggnog and start the season right with these 10 Holiday favorites!

#10

“Medley: Jingle Bells / Jingle Bell Rock”
The Coffin Draggers

Start the party right with this in your face medley that sort of growls Christmas as it just keeps getting faster. You also can’t miss the hardcore transition from “Jingle Bells” to “Jingle Bell Rock” which allows you to take a small breath.

#9

“O Come, O Come Emanuel”
Bad Religion

Christmas Songs from Bad Religion is a new entry into the list as this 2013 release has plenty of Xmas cheer (TFN Review). “O Come, O Come Emanuel” has a memorable guitar riff that only Bad Religion can produce – even better when turned up as singer Greg Graffin delivers his seriously pointed lines.

#8

“Santa On The Roof”
The Reverend Horton Heat

Rockabilly and Christmas – you bet! The Reverend brings all of his charm on this one and makes for a foot tapping track to cheers any drink you have in your hand!

#7

“Run, Run Rudolph”
The Humpers

If you ever have checked out the straight up garage rock punk from The Humpers then you know this cover of a Christmas classic is a keeper. Live Forever or Die Trying from 1996 was The Humpers Epitaph Records debut and still is one of my favorite albums from that year. “Run, Run Rudolph” has that same garage approach and it just packs strength in its chords that you won’t hear in many other versions of this track.

#6

“Christmas Night Of Zombies”
MxPx

Zombies have always been cool and this punk rocker from MxPx will keep you awake at night. I believe the line “my face is green and the snow is red” gives you enough details of how this song turns out.

#5

“Oh Come All Ye Faithful”
Twisted Sister

Call it a guilty pleasure or call it stupid but this version from Twisted Sister is fun, loud and still sounds great today. Is it cool to say I like Twisted Sister Christmas out loud? Is it cool to have this track wedged between some more hipster groups or even playing next to Sufjan Stevens? I don’t know the answers but I can tell you that there are not many Sufjan songs that I can crank up like this one!

#4

“Candy Cane Children”
The White Stripes

This Christmas diddy from The White Stripes has Jack’s trademark guitar and Meg’s pounding drums. It is not a song that people will be caroling with but it definitely shakes things up and sometimes a Xmas original like this is just what December calls for.

#3

“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”
U2

Back in 2010, Rolling Stone gave this song their number one spot in their greatest rock n roll Christmas songs list. It was originally released by Darlene Love in 1963 but U2’s version is probably the most recognized. I also think that U2’s version still stands the tallest when you turn it up – and I always do.

#2

“Merry Christmas (I Don’t Wanna Fight Tonight)”
Ramones

Can’t really go wrong with this classic. It works well at any volume but on 10 is always best. Long live the Ramones!

#1

“Everything’s Gonna Be Cool This Christmas”
Eels

This song might surprise you taking number one but if you have not heard this 1993 classic from Eels I suggest you search it out for your next Christmas mix. Hands down has been my must play every year. “Baby Jesus – Born To Rock” is the only line you need to know!

Have a great Holiday season everyone!
