This edition balances reverence and rebellion. A British Invasion cornerstone reborn in mono. A ‘90s cult favorite finally getting wax. A fragile Irish debut turning heads. A Chicago youth-indie scene documenting itself in real time. And Rough Trade celebrating fifty years of shaping independent music culture.
VR-008 isn’t just about records — it’s about lineage.
The Zombies — Begin Here (Levitation Edition, Mono Remastered)
Original Release: 1965 | Levitation Edition Release: April 17, 2026 | Format: 1×LP, Mono Remastered, Road Runner Hand-Pressed Color-in-Color Vinyl (Limited to 300)
Drop the Needle HERE →
Why It Matters:
Begin Here captures The Zombies before the mythology, before Odessey & Oracle, when beat-boom R&B and sophisticated songwriting were already colliding in ways few of their peers could match. “She’s Not There” still sounds alien — that Hohner Pianet slicing through the mix like something beamed in from a parallel London. In mono, the record feels tighter, punchier, and more immediate.
Collector’s Note:
This LEVITATION Edition is limited to 300 hand-pressed ‘Road Runner’ color-in-color copies, remastered in the original mono mix. Includes new liner notes by David Fricke, housed in a single pocket jacket with poly-lined sleeves and insert. Small run. Big statement.
Blake Babies — God Bless The Blake Babies (25th Anniversary) (American Laundromat Records)
Original Release: 2001 | Vinyl Debut: May 22, 2026 | Format: 1×LP, Gatefold (Black / Midnight Blue / Splatter Variants, Limited to 500 Total)
Drop the Needle HERE →
Why It Matters:
Juliana Hatfield’s orbit has always been fascinating, but God Bless The Blake Babies stands as a snapshot of indie rock just before it fractured into the blog-era blur. Smart, sharp songwriting with an unforced cool that feels even more relevant now. The fact that this is its first-ever vinyl pressing gives it a second life that feels overdue.
Collector’s Note:
Limited to 500 copies worldwide: Splatter (200), Black (100), Midnight Blue (200). Plus 10 test pressings and just 3 Wax Mage variants. Mastered by Scott Hull at Masterdisk and pressed at Gotta Groove in Cleveland. True small-batch energy.
Dove Ellis — Blizzard (Rough Trade Exclusive) (Black Butter)
Original Release: 2025 | Vinyl Release: May 1, 2026 | Format: 1×LP, Brown Vinyl with Alternate Artwork (Limited to 500)
Drop the Needle HERE →
Why It Matters:
You should already know this one as it had a digital release in December (TFN review). Blizzard is intimate without being fragile, cinematic without being grandiose. Dove Ellis writes in emotional close-ups, channeling Buckley-esque vulnerability through a distinctly modern lens. It’s one of those debuts that feels both timeless and completely of its moment. Perfect for vinyl.
Collector’s Note:
The Rough Trade Exclusive on brown vinyl with alternate artwork, is limited to 500 copies. You can also find an indie gold variant and a standard black for this first run.
Various Artists — Red Xerox: Chicago Youth Beat 2020–2025 (Desert Island)
Release Date: March 18, 2026 | Format: 1×LP + Handmade 24-Page Zine
Drop the Needle HERE →
Why It Matters:
This isn’t nostalgia — it’s a movement documenting itself. Red Xerox captures Chicago’s Hallogallo youth scene in real time, from early Horsegirl, Sharp Pins, Friko and Lifeguard cuts to unreleased chaos and basement-born manifestos. This is a scene that really got more exposure last year and this compilation puts an exclamation point on why! It feels urgent, handmade, and unpolished in the best way. You can practically smell the Sharpie ink and coffee shop flyers. For Fans of: Good Flying Birds, Yo La Tengo, The Clean, Jessica Pratt, This is Lorelei, Olivia Tremor Control, Beat Happening
Collector’s Note:
Each copy includes a handmade 24-page biographic zine chronicling the scene from 2019 onward. First release from Desert Island Recordings, the imprint from Brooklyn’s iconic zine shop. Pressed in small runs. Meant to be played loud.
Rough Trade — 50 Records for 50 Years (Drop One: 1976–1985)
Series Launch: 2026 | Format: Exclusive Vinyl Pressings with Bonus Material
Drop the Needle HERE →
Why It Matters:
Rough Trade turning fifty isn’t just a retail milestone — it’s a cultural checkpoint. From Patti Smith and The Clash to Young Marble Giants and Cocteau Twins, the 1976–1985 drop traces the DNA of independent music as we know it. This isn’t just a reissue campaign; it’s a curated institutional memory. Can’t wait to see what future drops contain!
Collector’s Note:
Each title features an exclusive pressing with bonus liner notes, stories, and fresh interviews. This is Drop One, meaning there’s more to come — and completionists will want to start at the beginning. One standout release in the series is the 1979 self-titled classic from The Specials. This edition includes an exclusive bonus 7″ featuring the BBC Olympic Sound Studios Top of the Pops mixes of “Gangsters” and “A Message to You Rudy,” which sound fantastic and are versions many hardcore fans haven’t even heard.
Closing Groove
VR-008 reminds us that scenes evolve, legends get rediscovered, and new voices quietly step forward while institutions reflect on their history. From classic mono British Invasion punch to Chicago youth fever, this edition bridges generations without feeling stuck in any one era. Vinyl isn’t just archival, it’s connective.
