Kneeling In Piss

Alex Mussawir’s Kneeling In Piss emerged from what was left of Future Nuns in 2018. Their debut, Tour De Force, offered a catchy and jangly type punk that included a memorable lo-fi power pop. The group is now back with another musical statement on the newly released 4 track EP titled The Mob. The digital release just hit last week via Anyway records with a physical release slated for later in the year. The tracks have covered the US already as they were recorded in Columbus, Oakland, New Orleans, Santa Fe, and Salt Lake City. The EP rocks out in 13 minutes and delivers the same Kneeling In Piss snarl you have already become accustomed to with their loose intensity and Parquet Courts type sound.

Alec Lytle & Them Rounders
San Francisco, California
Northern California-based band Alec Lytle & Them Rounders have their sophomore album, The Remains Of Sunday, coming out next week, April 17 via CEN/The Orchard. The 10-track album was recorded in Studio B at the world-famous Sound City Studio in Los Angeles, produced by Tony Berg (Michael Penn, Josh Radin, Blake Mills), and mixed by the legendary Bob Clearmountain (Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie). I always like when we find a record that is pure in every way from the lyrics to the song structures to the delivery. Lytle has created that type of album with The Remains Of Sunday and its overall Americana pulse. You can just tell that this is a record of passion and Alec is singing for any person that wants to tune in with no strings attached. That takes The Remains Of Sunday to another level. It is also noteworthy to make sure you check out the album closer which is a great cover of Paul Simon’s, “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes.”

The Buttertones
Los Angeles, California
If you have been following LA’s Buttertones since their debut in 2013 or this is your first introduction, I think you will really dig into their new album Jazzhound which is out this Friday, April 10th via Innovative Leisure. It represents the group’s most expansive sound with adding a bass vi and heavier synth into the mix but also Jazzhound’s songs feel the most focused. The group’s tight Interpol type sound snaps and the ten songs here form solid post-punk tunes that pull in some garage and surf undertones. Honestly, after a few more listens to The Buttertones’ Jazzhound, it may quickly become an album we don’t put away!
