Fire Drill Album Review: The Yawpers highlight all that is good with the rowdy bar band vibe as they pull off a Steve Earle fronts Old 97s sound with a blue collar work ethic of Uncle Tupelo. American Man is just that kind of record as the group’s sophomore album is driven hard by the throaty vocals of singer/guitarist Nate Cook. There are plenty of songs to get excited about here, like the call out heavy “Walter” or the air guitar worthy “Doing It Right.” The Yawpers are a true American heart on the sleeve type of group as the guys can explode around every chord which fuels this record. Basically, American Man highlights that the idea of the working band is still alive in Colorado and their name is The Yawpers!
